A vacancy has arisen for a Personal Adviser, at Dunoon Jobcentre Plus.

The post holder will be undertaking Personal Adviser, work-focused interviews for Jobcentre Plus benefit customers. 
Personal Advisers act as case workers for Jobcentre Plus customers identifying barriers to employment and providing assistance and access to available services to help them in this process.
Key responsibilities are:

  • the motivation of customers to see work as realistic and achievable
  • identification of job goals and giving advice on how this can be accomplished taking into account individual circumstances, job specifications and opportunities available within the local job market
  • completion of job searches for those ready and identification of suitable vacancies
  • encouraging customers where appropriate to use various channels available to find employment
  • working with customers, partner organisations, employers and agencies that provide employment, education and training
  • developing and maintaining partnership
  • working with Jobcentre Plus colleagues and employers/relevant external organisations to extend the range of support for customers.

Key Tasks

  • To undertake Personal Adviser interviews for unemployed customers. 
  • To help them overcome job search barriers by providing guidance, information, support and encouragement.
  • To establish and maintain a wide knowledge of local labour market information and opportunities for the customer group.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with staff and external organisations.
  • Ability to work within a team but also committed to personal achievement and continuous improvement.
  • To contribute to local performance, via the delivery of Jobcentre Plus targets and encourage sustainability within the customer group.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with external partners.
  • Ability to provide an excellent customer focused service.

Applicants successful at the initial sift will be invited to sit the DWP Literacy and Numeracy tests. These will take place in Dunoon week commencing 24/11/2008. Candidates successful at this stage will be invited to attend an interview. This will take place week commencing 15/12/2008.
